Count simultaneous use before comparing features

Seven connections can be plenty for one person, but a household with several phones, laptops and entertainment devices can exceed that allowance. PIA’s published unlimited simultaneous-device model removes that particular constraint on compatible equipment.

Compatibility still needs checking. A device allowance does not provide a native app for every television, console or router. Identify the installation route for each piece of equipment and the person who will maintain it.

A router setup can affect several users at once and complicate local services. Check the exact model and firmware support. Keep a way to recover normal connectivity without relying on the VPN route itself.

If the requirement is employee administration or controlled business access, evaluate a business product separately. Consumer connection counts do not describe centralized identity or offboarding capabilities.

Guided choices versus configurable routing

CyberGhost’s task-oriented presentation may be helpful if you prefer a simple place to start. PIA’s configuration documentation is relevant when you need to understand application exceptions and routing behavior.

More settings are not automatically better. Each exception creates another behavior to verify. Begin with a default connection that works, then add only the changes required by a specific application or network.

For split tunneling, confirm whether the selected application bypasses the VPN or is the only application routed through it. Verify DNS behavior and related helper processes where relevant.

For both services, inspect the platform-specific kill-switch documentation. Unexpected disconnection, manual app exit and startup are separate cases. Test them with harmless activity rather than assuming one successful connection covers every state.

Do not choose from a streaming label alone

A server label can guide evaluation, but cannot guarantee continuing access to a destination. Streaming platforms can alter their detection and account rules, and behavior may differ by device and region.

We have not verified live streaming access for either provider. If lawful compatibility with a specific service is central to the purchase, check the destination’s terms and test the actual setup during an eligible evaluation period.

Diagnose failures carefully. A destination account issue, cached application state or unsupported device may look like a VPN fault. Keep the server, app version and error information so support can investigate a concrete problem.

A VPN does not confer rights to content. Purchase it with realistic expectations about changing service availability.

Read the billing periods and refund rules

CyberGhost advertises a refund window of up to 45 days, with conditions tied to the selected subscription. The largest advertised window should not be assumed to apply to every monthly or third-party purchase.

PIA’s checked annual offer is €41.88 for the first year with the same stated annual renewal. That snapshot is useful context, not a permanent price guarantee. Compare it with the actual CyberGhost cart in the same currency and over the same period.

Long promotions may include extra months only in the initial period. Record the first total, duration, renewal total and renewal duration separately. A low rounded monthly equivalent can hide a large first payment.

Cancellation of future billing and a refund of a paid term are different actions. Confirm the procedure and keep evidence of requests. Evaluate promptly rather than leaving every test until the final eligible day.

Compare privacy evidence without filling gaps with scores

Read each provider’s current privacy policy and supporting technical materials. Identify the operating company and the scope of any audit or assessment referenced by the provider.

Public application code can make scrutiny possible, but it does not establish every aspect of production operations. A report’s date, version and exclusions matter. We have not independently audited either service.

Keep the basic privacy boundary in mind. A VPN can change the public route while accounts, cookies or the device itself still identify activity. An encrypted tunnel does not prevent every phishing attempt or malicious download.

Use the same acceptance checklist

Install each candidate on the devices that matter, use the same base connection and record the app version and settings. Check normal browsing, a call, a download and network transitions.

Test local printers or casting if they are part of the household routine. Verify intended exceptions and the documented disconnect behavior. Repeat a problematic case before concluding it is a consistent limitation.

Do not declare a speed winner from measurements taken with different devices, routes or cache states. The comparison should answer whether the actual household setup works comfortably.
