Three checks before comparing the discount
A useful comparison begins with the number of concurrent devices, the functions required on each operating system and the period you expect to use the VPN. Both providers can appear attractive in a long introductory promotion while solving a different set of constraints.
For a person using a phone and laptop, the connection allowance alone is unlikely to decide the issue. For a household often using eight or more devices simultaneously, the difference is concrete. For someone needing a specific app to bypass the VPN, the relevant platform feature can matter more than either count.
| Decision | NordVPN | CyberGhost |

| Observed long introduction | 27 months including 3 extra | 26 months including 2 extra |
| Recorded later billing | Annual renewal | Annual renewal on the long offer |
| Refund distinction | 30-day terms in the cited offer | Monthly: 14 days; six-month and longer: 45 days, with conditions |
| Split-tunneling example | Windows and Android app routing documented | Android App Split Tunnel documented |

The two long offers are close in duration, not identical in renewal

Original calculations by HostingRanker, using the dated source observations in the table. A lower bar does not establish the best product or comparable features.
In these EUR observations, CyberGhost’s first €56.94 covers 26 months; the same stated payment at renewal covers 12. NordVPN Basic’s first €94.23 covers 27 months, followed by a recorded €139.08 annual renewal. Both need a whole renewal to cover a 36-month horizon, but they leave different amounts of prepaid service afterward.
The chart uses the VPN-focused NordVPN tier rather than an expanded bundle. Adding unrelated services on one side would change the question. Regional offers stay labeled and are not presented as guaranteed American checkout prices.
We allocate the first payment across all months it covers, including any bonus months. Cash includes whole billing periods needed to reach the chosen horizon. Renewal rates are held constant for this illustration; they are not guaranteed future quotes. Unknown bills remain unverified. Domains, optional services and taxes are excluded unless explicitly added. Read the calculation method.
Plan the evaluation around the actual term
CyberGhost’s longer direct subscriptions have a different recorded refund window from its monthly plan. A reader buying one month should not assume that the longest advertised guarantee applies. NordVPN’s cited offer has its own money-back conditions.
Before payment, list the checks you need to perform during the applicable period: install on the actual OS, connect through the ordinary network, check necessary applications and observe sleep and reconnection behavior. These personal checks can reveal a mismatch that a generic review cannot predict.
Canceling future renewal is separate from making a refund request. Verify the procedure, deadlines and purchase-route conditions with the provider. If the subscription is purchased through an app store or other intermediary, do not assume its handling is identical to the direct offer used here.
The CyberGhost pricing guide and NordVPN pricing guide explain the term choices separately. A refund policy is a contractual option, not proof of a service’s performance.
Compare the feature you need on the operating system you use
CyberGhost’s Android documentation describes selecting apps that bypass the VPN. NordVPN also documents app-based split tunneling on Windows and Android. Those examples should not be extended to iOS, macOS or a router without checking the relevant guide.
Kill-switch controls and behavior can also differ across operating systems and app variants. The practical question is what happens on your device after an accidental drop, a deliberate disconnect or a reboot. An automatic-protection label does not answer every one of those situations.
Start with the default client configuration before adding routing exceptions. Each exception should correspond to a real need, and its effect should be checked. A browser extension protects a different scope from the full-device client; applications outside the browser may follow another route.
Our VPN setup and checking guide provides a sequence for personal evaluation. We have not used it to claim paid-account test results for these providers.
What would make us start with one rather than the other?
NordVPN is a logical starting point when the ten-connection allowance and its documented app features fit the household. Choose a larger bundle only if the added services will actually be used; price the annual renewal difference as well as the introductory upgrade.
CyberGhost is a logical starting point when seven concurrent connections are sufficient and its app approach and subscription conditions fit the intended evaluation. The lower observed long-term cash requirement can matter, but it should come after required compatibility.
Neither server counts nor provider-maintained streaming labels establish which service will work best on a particular connection. We have not measured speed, gaming latency or streaming availability. Read both full reviews for the evidence boundaries and use the household VPN shortlist if the real issue is covering a larger set of devices.
Take the right shortlist to checkout
Read both full reviews before deciding. Keep a copy of the exact tariff, initial payment, service period, renewal, exclusions and cancellation terms in your actual storefront. An affiliate link does not guarantee a particular promotion.
Our coverage is limited to the disclosed partners. A recommendation here is a reasoned starting point within that coverage, not a claim that we compared every service on the market.
